What speeds are available with Yak High Speed Internet?

Will my current DSL Internet service be affected by switching to Yak High Speed Internet?
No. Your current DSL service will not be disrupted, but you may experience some offline time depending on when you cancel your current/old Internet service and until your Yak High Speed Internet service is implemented and your new modem arrives via Canada Post. If I sign up for Yak High Speed Internet service, do I need to call my current provider to notify them of the change?
Yes, you will need to inform your current/old Internet Service Provider that you have subscribed to Yak High Speed Internet.
Do I need a Yak modem for Yak High Speed Internet service?
Yes. Yak has traditional or wireless modems available to buy or rent for a monthly fee. A rented modem must be returned if the service is cancelled otherwise you will have to pay Yak’s Modem Loss Charge.
What is Usage-Based Billing?
Other Internet providers now employ Usage-Based Billing [UBB] which is a charge to their customers that corresponds to how much data they use for downloads each month. Typically, Internet service specifies a monthly download limit and any time that limit is exceeded, the usage-based charge is applied. The charges range from $2/GB -$4/GB. BUT, with Yak High Speed Internet, you can still enjoy unlimited downloads and no usage-based billing in our Ontario service areas.
If I subscribe to Yak Digital Phone, do I need to use Yak High Speed Internet too?
No. You can use Yak Digital Phone with any Internet provider and service; however, Yak offers great bundle rebates and loyalty points with no contracts! Click here for more on Yak Paks.

Are there any installation or activation charges with Yak High Speed Internet?
No. Yak does not charge you to install or activate your services. Enjoy the savings! And remember, Yak is contract-free, so you're free to cancel your service at anytime with no penalties.
Is there a charge for directory assistance (411)?
Yes, there is a charge of 80¢ for long distance directory assistance.
What is Yak Payback?
Yak Payback is Yak's loyalty program - it’s designed to reward you, the loyal Yak customer. When you use your Yak services like Home Phone, Long Distance, High Speed Internet, you'll earn valuable points, then you can turn those points into rewards like savings on your monthly Yak bill or discounts on new Yak services. Does Yak offer electronic invoicing?

Yes, Yak offers ebilling and you can retrieve your invoice through our Yak Self Care Portal. There, you can view, download, save or print your current and previous invoices, update your contact information, change your billing information such as entering a new credit card number, or add services to your account. Access the Portal by using your email address and password that you chose to use when you signed up for your Yak services. If you're an existing customer click here.to login. Is there a charge for receiving a paper invoice?

Are there any taxes or other government fees that I should know about?
July 1, 2010 in the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia the PST and GST will be combined to create the HST [Harmonized Sales Tax]. The HST is applicable on Yak services. HST will appear on your monthly invoice beginning June 15, 2010. Learn more about the HST through the Canada Revenue Agency. HST is already in effect in the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland, Labrador, and Quebec.
How do you protect my payment information?
The information submitted on our web site is protected by the highest level of industry-standard SSL encryption. All of the credit card or chequing account information received by Yak is encrypted and stored on our secure billing servers.
Do you send a bill before you charge my credit card or process an EFT payment?
Yes, you'll always receive your invoice approximately 10 business days before any payments are processed.
What is Call Trace?
Call Trace ensures that the number of your last incoming caller is recorded so that appropriate action may be taken against the harassing party.
Note: There is a $5 fee for this service and should only be used in serious situations. Trace information will only be released to the police; it will not be provided to you. You must contact the police if you wish to take action on a traced call. May not be available in certain areas.
How to use Call Trace?
  • Hang up after receiving the threatening or harassing call.
  • Lift the receiver and dial *57 (or 1157 on rotary phones).
  • Wait for a confirmation dial tone or a recording telling you that call trace has been placed and hang up.
