Can I switch more than one phone line to Yak Unlimited Long Distance?
There is no limit on the number of phone lines that you sign up with Yak Unlimited Long Distance Service. The more lines, the more unlimited calling, and the greater your savings.
Can I register my fax line with Yak Unlimited Long Distance service?
Yes, Yak Unlimited Long Distance can be used on either a fax or standard telephone line.
What happens after I sign up for Yak Unlimited Long Distance?
Once you've registered, it will take about 3 to 5 business days for your long distance to be switched to Yak. To confirm that you're with Yak, simply dial toll-free 1-700-555-4141 from the phone line you registered. If the message indicates Yak, your Yak Unlimited Long Distance account is now active.
What is 1-700-555-4141?
1-700-555-4141 is a toll-free number maintained by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (or CRTC). When you call 1-700-555-4141 a recorded message informs you of the current long distance carrier for the line called from.
Do I need to notify my current carrier that I'm switching to Yak?
No, when you sign up for Yak Unlimited Long Distance, we notify your local carrier of the request and they make the switch, automatically cancelling services with your previous long distance provider.
Are there any fees or minimum usage requirements with Yak Unlimited Long Distance?
There are no fees or minimum usage requirements associated with Yak Unlimited Long Distance. However, Unlimited plans are based on reasonable residential usage and you may be charged for usage above and beyond the set amount of minutes. If you choose to receive a paper invoice for your Yak services, an administrative charge of $1.95 does apply. The fee is waived for customers over 65. Save trees and money! What does Yak mean by ‘reasonable residential usage’?
Yak Unlimited Long Distance plans give you a pre-set number of long distance minutes each month that have been calculated using data from normal, residential monthly calling patterns, therefore each Unlimited plan includes 1500 minutes per month. Each additional minute will be billed at Yak Long Distance rates. Click here for a complete list of Yak Long Distance rates.  Plans do not include calls to Alaska, Hawaii or the Canadian Territories and are restricted to landline destinations with the exception of calls to Canada and the United States (where calls to mobile destinations are included) or unless otherwise indicated. Yak Unlimited International does not include calls to country code 970. Minutes may also be pro-rated based on time of service activation.
Will any long distance charges appear on my local phone bill?
No. With Yak Unlimited Long Distance you get a monthly invoice from Yak, which you can choose to receive electronically or by standard mail (an administrative charge of $1.95 applies to paper bills mailed).
What will happen to my current local and long distance service if I register for Yak Unlimited Long Distance?
There will be no change to your local service, but any long distance services you are currently receiving from other carriers will be cancelled. With Yak Unlimited Long Distance, you'll still be able to use dial-around or access number-based services. At Yak, we don't restrict our customers' choices.
Does my Yak Unlimited Long Distance plan include calling to both landlines and mobile phones?
Yak Unlimited Long Disance plans do not include calls to Alaska, Hawaii or the Canadian Territories. Yak Unlimited International calling is restricted to landline destinations and does not include calls to country code 970. Yak Unlimited Canada & USA includes calling to both landlines and mobile phones unless otherwise indicated. Is there a charge for directory assistance (411)?
Yes, there is a charge of 80¢ for long distance directory assistance.
What is Yak Payback?

Does Yak offer electronic invoicing?

Yes, Yak offers ebilling and you can retrieve your invoice through our Yak Self Care Portal. There, you can view, download, save or print your current and previous invoices, update your contact information, change your billing information such as entering a new credit card number, or add services to your account. Access the Portal by using your email address and password that you chose to use when you signed up for your Yak services. If you're an existing customer click here.to login. Is there a charge for receiving a paper invoice?

Are there any taxes or other government fees that I should know about?
July 1, 2010 in the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia the PST and GST will be combined to create the HST [Harmonized Sales Tax]. The HST is applicable on Yak services. HST will appear on your monthly invoice beginning June 15, 2010. Learn more about the HST through the Canada Revenue Agency. HST is already in effect in the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland, Labrador, and Quebec.
How do you protect my payment information?
The information submitted on our web site is protected by the highest level of industry-standard SSL encryption. All of the credit card or chequing account information received by Yak is encrypted and stored on our secure billing servers.
Do you send a bill before you charge my credit card or process an EFT payment?
Yes, you'll always receive your invoice approximately 10 business days before any payments are processed.
What is Call Trace?
Call Trace ensures that the number of your last incoming caller is recorded so that appropriate action may be taken against the harassing party.
Note: There is a $5 fee for this service and should only be used in serious situations. Trace information will only be released to the police; it will not be provided to you. You must contact the police if you wish to take action on a traced call. May not be available in certain areas.
How to use Call Trace?
  • Hang up after receiving the threatening or harassing call.
  • Lift the receiver and dial *57 (or 1157 on rotary phones).
  • Wait for a confirmation dial tone or a recording telling you that call trace has been placed and hang up.
